Sam Woodruff

I am the proud father of five children—three graduates of Chinook and LCI, with two more currently attending LCI. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Lethbridge and have built my career in finance and business right here in our community. As a local small business owner and a board member of the Lethbridge Housing Authority for the past six years, I bring both professional and governance experience to the table.

Statement of beliefs

I believe in our students, our community, and the future of our schools. EVERY child represents the future of our community, and it is our responsibility to ensure they are prepared for success. Schools play a vital role in that journey, but to fully realize this potential, they must be properly supported and funded. I am committed to working toward that success for EVERY student.

Priority areas

  1. Getting the needed funding and making sure it goes to where it is needed – in the classroom

  2. Advocate for the needed capital funding and then modernize schools.

  3. Get funding to provide exciting, relevant learning spaces for students.

Views on funding

Alberta needs to increase funding for public education to invest in our future. The role of the school board is to set local priorities based on stakeholder feedback and approve the budget prepared by the administration based on those priorities.

How learning conditions can be improved

Ensuring the funding we currently have is spent responsibly, and by getting more funding and support for the classrooms. Smarter spending will give us stronger futures.

How trustees and school boards can best support teachers

Trustees and school boards can best support teachers through open, respectful, and consistent communication, ensuring they understand the needs of educators and can respond effectively. Boards must also advocate to the government for the resources schools and communities require, while maintaining fiscal responsibility to maximize support for both students and teachers in the classroom. Smarter Spending. Stornger Futures.

Views on the new K-6 curriculum

Any time the curriculum is updated, it is essential that the process include meaningful consultation and allow adequate time for feedback, as well as to make sure that feedback is valued. We need to ensure that all stakeholders—teachers, parents, and the community—are fully engaged in shaping these important changes.
